Since 1977, the residents of Woodruff Place have welcomed guests into the community during home and garden tours. In that time, over 290 households have opened their doors and gates to share the distinctive and singular experience that is life in Woodruff Place.

Strolling along the esplanades under the shade of high canopy trees offers the flavor of a time gone by still lived today. Experiencing the combination of diverse architecture, splashing fountains, vintage streetlights, and an array of classical public art is a rare adventure. There is much at which to marvel in Woodruff Place.

A significant part of the wonder is not only in what can be seen, but in the spirit of the community. The home and garden tour would not be possible without the generosity of property owners who open their spaces to the public. It would not happen at all without the hard work and dedication of neighbors and friends who make and distribute signs, ensure the neighborhood looks beautiful, host breakfasts, develop promotional materials, organize, and participate in the fashion show, sell tickets, share history at Town Hall, provide taxi service, act as docents, coordinate the volunteer appreciation celebration, and many more duties. Such dedication is simultaneously extraordinary in general, yet common in Woodruff Place.

All are invited to visit the neighborhood at any time but doing so during the home and garden tour is particularly special. To guests, welcome. To participants, neighbors, and friends, thank you. In the words of James Whitcomb Riley, “Blessed doorway, opening where/We may look on Nature – there/Hand to hand and face to face -/Storied realm, or Woodruff Place.”

Woodruff Place Home and Garden Tour is a rain or shine event.
